Biography
NIGHTBEARER was formed in 2017 by Michael Torka and Dominik Hellmuth as a heartfelt old school death metal band in order to fulfill a long-standing wish: to play straight, 90s-inspired death metal without any compromises. Since then the years have passed and what has remained is the characteristic buzzsawing HM-2 guitar sound, the overall lyrical concept and the love for death metal. More elements have been added, but without exchanging the attribute "old" for "modern".
Horror and fantasy literature dominate the concept, with authors such as H.P. Lovecraft, Robert Jordan, G.R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard.
In winter 2017, the 5-track EP "Stories from beyond" was produced in Hellmouth studios and released on CD and digitally on June 30, 2018 via the Lower Saxony label "Unholy Fire Records"; the artwork was delivered by Timon Kokott. Reviews and feedback were consistently positive and confirmed that we should continue on the path we had chosen. This is how the project became a band by hiring friends to conquer the stages of this world and get to the next level.
In December 2019 the debut album "Tales Of Sorcery And Death" was released by the renowned German death metal label "Testimony Records" on CD, LP, cassette and digital. The artwork was provided by genre great Juanjo Castellano Rosado (The Black Dahlia Murder, Revel in Flesh, Sentient Horror). The tenor of the positive response continued, as shown by the sound check place 8 of the German Rock Hard Magazine, but also in lots of online reviews blowing in the same horn.
With the follow-up "Ghosts Of A Darkness To Come", released in June 2022, the band put a new focus on depth and consistency in songwriting, atmosphere and lyrical concept. This takes the listener on a journey into the world of Robert Jordan's epic novel series "The Wheel of Time" to explore all the bloody, dark and deadly events and locations. The album was released on CD, LP and download via Testimony Records. The successful collaboration with Juanjo Castellano Rosado was continued for the artwork.
With overwhelmingly positive reviews behind them, NIGHTBEARER played various shows in 2023 at the Metal Diver Festival or at the Party.San Autumn Offensive and are currently working on the 3rd. Album.
